LAKERS’ ANNUAL “WISH NIGHT” JANUARY 20TH BENEFITS
MAKE-A-WISH® GREATER LOS ANGELES
Team Will “Dunk For Dollars,” Honor Long-Time Volunteer as
Honorary Team Captain, and Grant a Wish
Los Angeles, CA, January 18, 2016
– The Lakers will continue their years-long support of Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles on Wednesday, January 20 with a special "Wish Night" to benefit the children’s charity, which grants wishes to children battling life-threatening medical conditions.
A major highlight of the game will be the team’s "Dunk for Dollars," in which each dunk by a Lakers player will result in a $1,000 donation from the Lakers Youth Foundation to Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles. In addition, long-time Make-A-Wish volunteer Lewie Levy will be honored as Honorary Team Captain and meet with team captains and the referees prior to tip-off.
The Lakers will also grant the wish of Paul, 17, from Warren, Tennessee, who is currently battling leukemia. Paul’s wish is to meet and practice with the team, and his wish will include spending time with the players at shoot around practice. During the game, video coverage of the wish will be shown on the Jumbotron so fans can share Paul’s exciting experience.
"The Lakers are proud of our on-going partnership with Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles. Our players and team are an integral part of making wishes come true for many wish recipients. It is wonderful to so directly serve the mission of a great partner like Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles," said Jason McDevitt, Community Relations Director for the Lakers.
"We’re incredibly grateful for the Lakers’ friendship and support of our mission to grant wishes for children throughout Los Angeles. Over the years, the Lakers have both raised funds and granted hundreds of wishes, proving again and again that the thrill of meeting their favorite sports champions can inspire wish kids, their families and the entire community. We’re looking forward to a great game, a fun night with friends and fans, and a lot of slam dunks," said Dr. Ramin Baschshi, COO and Interim President/CEO, Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles.
