LOS ANGELES, CA (July 5, 2018) – As Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles celebrates its 35th year of granting wishes in Los Angeles County, the nonprofit organization has appointed La Detresse Co-founder, Alana Hadid, and Stem CEO Milana Rabkin Lewis to its Board of Directors. With the recent additions, including new President & CEO, Mike Kallhoff, the nonprofit is poised to grant its 10,000th wish this year.
“Alana and Milana exemplify the type of leaders Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles needs to achieve our long-term goal of reaching every eligible child in the city,” said Bo Pearl, Board Chair, Make-A-Wish Greater LA. “As we tackle the immense challenge of granting 550 wishes for children with critical illnesses this year, their vision and drive will be instrumental in helping us raise vital funding in the LA community.”
Hadid co-founded her fashion company La Detresse in 2017, the same year she also started Hadid Eyewear, a family business. She also co-founded “Better Bacon” a for-profit graphic t-shirt company that created vital jobs for disabled high schoolers. Hadid has worked with numerous charities throughout her career and has sat on the junior board of Knock out Abuse, a DC-based nonprofit.
Stem is a financial platform that simplifies payments for musicians and content creators. Rabkin Lewis started the organization to give artists the tools needed to make their creative dreams a sustainable reality. Prior to this, she spent five years as a Digital Media Agent at premier global talent and literary agency, United Talent Agency (UTA). She has been recognized as one of Hollywood’s “New Leaders” by Variety, was named one of Refinery29's “30 under 30” most influential rising stars in 2012, and featured in Inc’s “30 Under 30” in 2017.
Make-A-Wish Greater LA will mark its 35th Anniversary milestone year at a community celebration at the annual Wish Gala on October 24, 2018 at The Beverly Hilton.
