That was on the “rider of requirements” of Grace, 11, whose wish to be a celebrity. Over five days, she was styled, made up, photographed and “chased” by camera-carrying fanatics. Battling Rhabdomyosarcoma, Grace was diagnosed with this cancer of the muscles and joints the day after her 10th birthday. After a year of chemo and radiation, she debuted her now shorter “do” in the most stylish way possible – as a celebrity.
When Grace left her house in Glendale, California, she magically stepped out of the limo at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills as an instant sensation. One of the key elements of Grace’s wish was to have paparazzi and fans follow her, ask for her photograph and take her picture. With the help of 75+ volunteers, her wish came true every time she left the hotel, got out of the limo at a fancy restaurant or left one of her television appearances. At any given “entrance or exit,” 10-30 fans and photographers yelled and screamed her name and took selfies with her.
Her wish culminated in attending the Variety “Young Hollywood Awards.” She was personally styled with a one-of-a-kind creation and made-up by Hollywood’s top makeup artist. With her entourage including a reality-TV-inspired camera crew and photographer close by her side, she walked the red carpet with Cody Simpson and rubbed elbows with movie, TV and music stars as her picture was snapped thousands of times.
The crescendo of the night was not only sitting at Justin Bieber’s table, but being called up by him on stage and receiving a standing ovation on national television. That moment made her a global sensation and lead to national press interviews on E! News and Access Hollywood Live. In a short time, her Instagram account exploded to 13,000 fans following her wish.
Life a fairytale princess, the celebrity clock of fame struck it’s preverbal midnight (15 minutes), and she returned home a “normal girl.” But for five days she truly was – a celebrity!
