At just three months old, Eduardo was diagnosed with a genetic disorder that resulted in constant hospital visits throughout his life. While this has been incredibly challenging, Eduardo manages to find joy in the little things. He loves watching his favorite shows, Mickey Mouse and Wheels on the Bus and listening to his favorite music. Eduardo’s family believes his joyous spirit has allowed the entire family to remain strong and positive.
Because of Eduardo’s physical and verbal limitations, he communicates through sign language and spends most of his time in a wheelchair. When his parents learned about Make-A-Wish from a family friend, they referred Eduardo hoping he would be eligible for a wish that would help him better cope with his condition. They were surprised and delighted to learn that Eduardo was eligible and would be getting his wish granted! Eduardo and his family decided the most transformative wish would be for him to have an adaptive stroller. Because Eduardo spends most of his time in a wheelchair, they thought an adaptive stroller would be more comfortable and give him the support his body needs. In addition, an adaptive stroller could help Eduardo strengthen his legs and waist while allowing him to explore fun places with his friends and family.
With support from a very generous donor, the Make-A-Wish team was able to surprise Eduardo the day before his birthday with his special wish! He was so excited when his parents put him in his new stroller. He immediately danced to his favorite music with the new speakers he received as a wish enhancement gift. It was an awesome celebration, with balloons and some of his favorite sweets!
Today, Eduardo remains joyful and a happy boy. “What we have lived with him has been tough, but our son is here with us and we live day by day,” Mom says. “He is always smiling. He is the joy of our home.”
